"I think that a sculpture is neither solid nor hollow, not even a skillful combination of both. It is really the fullness-emptiness interface, the material expression of the movement of one infinitesimally thin dividing surface which, by the appropriate selection of direction and dimension, splits, bends, angles or turns intelligently in space, according to the innate artist's criterion who judges these directions and dimensions to be valid or not. This is my conception of sculptural work.
These surfaces constitute the limit between the void and the solid; this is really the volume as imagined at its highest level."
