Wooden Root Sculpture
Joaquim Ingravidesa is a Catalan sculptor and designer who creates abstract sculpture inspired by nature. The artist’s mahogany and teak root sculptures often incorporate 18 carat gold or silver patterned layers. The wood is sustainably sourced and primarily comes from the roots of old trees, originally used in the timber industry.
Fascinated by the traditional carving techniques used in Java and Malaysia, Joaquim Ingravidesa applies this ancient knowledge to create contemporary abstract sculpture that celebrates a stunning blend of noble metals and organic forms.
The artist divides his time between Asia and Europe, sourcing the wood in Malaysia and Indonesia, where he prepares the sculptures, before adding the finishing touches in his studio in Catalonia.
