Quentin Clemence
(1956, Glastonbury, England)
Born in a youth hostel in Glastonbury, England in 1956 son of sculptor John Clemence, grandson of illustrator Edward Ardizzone. He studied fine art at Goldsmiths College, London, 1976. He moved to Ireland and worked on farms and boats and then to Europe working with a small circus and as a puppeteer. Since 1986 He has been living near Barcelona working as a street entertainer and in dance theatre.
In 2002 he was awarded the Sabastia Guasch prize (Faculty of art and Design, Barcelona) for his contribution to the opera Lucrecia Borja by Carlos Santos for the inauguration of the Teatre Lluire in Barcelona.
In the summer of 2002 he exhibited his automata, a curious contraption of moving puppets and animals in the Caixa Forum as part of the 20th anniversary of the art gallery Sala Montcada ..
He has performed with performance artist and dancer Empar Rossello in the festival Grec 2003, the Festival de Sitges, The Festival Olimpiada Cultural
He has performed with Marionettes and automata in the Limburg festival, Holland and the Gent Festival, Belgium and have received invitations to perform in Estonia and Pakistan in October.
